Yıldız Palace
Yıldız, Yıldız Şale Köşkü, 34349 Beşiktaş/İstanbul, Türkiye
Located in the heart of Beşiktaş district, Yıldız Palace is essentially a complex of Ottoman pavilions and mansions. Although the land on which the palace was erected became an imperial estate during the reign of Ahmed I, the palace became synonymous with the reign of Abdülhamid II, the last great emperor of the Ottoman empire. A very controversial figure even today, Abdülhamid II is called as both "Bloody Sultan" and "Great Khan", showcasing the deep division looking at history between the secular and conservative parts of the Turkish society. Today, a Turkish series called "Payitaht Abdulhamid" made the emperor and his palace more famous, leading to a raise in popularity of the palace, which was renovated and reopened to visit recently in 2024.
