Hacı Abdullah

Hacı Abdullah Lokantası, Hüseyinağa, Atıf Yılmaz Caddesi, Beyoğlu/İstanbul, Türkiye

Near İstiklal Street, Hacı Abdullah carries one of Istanbul’s great restaurant legacies. Its story begins in the late 19th century with the official permission of Sultan Abdülhamid II. More than a century later, the restaurant still follows the old master-apprentice tradition rooted in Ahilik, the Anatolian guild culture that valued craftsmanship, honesty, discipline, and hospitality.Come here for classic Turkish and Ottoman home-style cooking rather than a modern fine-dining show. The kitchen serves slow-cooked stews, lamb dishes, stuffed vegetables, eggplant plates, rice dishes, hoşaf (fruit stew), sherbet, and traditional desserts. Kuzu tandır,(Pit roasted lamb), elbasan tava (lamb casserole with yoghurt), perde pilavı (pilaf with chicken and nuts enveloped in thin dough with almonds), mixed dolma, and eggplant-based dishes capture the spirit of the place especially well. The dining room creates a formal, nostalgic, and deeply old-school mood. You will not find alcohol or music here; Hacı Abdullah keeps the focus on food, service, and atmosphere. White tablecloths, polished plates, Ottoman-style decoration, and experienced waiters give the meal a ceremonial rhythm without making it feel stiff.Hacı Abdullah earns its reputation for strong value for money among locals. Generous portions, attentive service, and quality ingredients give the meal real substance. Come here when you want more than lunch or dinner: a composed, generous, and distinctly Istanbul experience from a restaurant that has practiced its masterpiece dishes for more than a century.
