Gülhane Park

Cankurtaran, Kennedy Cad., 34122 Fatih/İstanbul, Türkiye

Gülhane Park, meaning “House of Roses”, is one of Istanbul’s oldest parks, originally serving as the outer gardens of Topkapı Palace. It was an exclusive retreat for Ottoman sultans until it was opened to the public in 1912 during modernization efforts. The park is historically significant as the site where the Tanzimat Edict (1839) was declared, initiating key reforms in the Ottoman Empire. Today, its centuries-old plane trees, seasonal tulip displays, and panoramic views of the Bosphorus make it a favorite green space in the city. Gülhane is also home to the Museum of the History of Science and Technology in Islam, displaying innovations from the Islamic Golden Age. A peaceful retreat in the heart of Istanbul, the park blends history, culture, and nature, offering visitors a tranquil escape near the city’s most historic sites.
