About

Doruk began guiding in 2021, combining a background in architecture and an eye for detail with a passion for the layered history of Istanbul and beyond. His tours are designed for those who want to truly understand the spirit of a place — not just its famous sites, but also the meanings behind them.

He finds endless inspiration in the structural elegance of Hagia Sophia, the ceremonial richness of Topkapi Palace, and the refined symmetry of the Blue Mosque. Drawing from books like Hagia Sophia: A Vision for Empires and Palace of Felicity by Ahmet Ertuğ, Doruk blends deep historical insight with personal enthusiasm, making complex eras feel accessible and alive.

Beyond the grand monuments, Doruk thrives in Istanbul’s dynamic neighborhoods. He is particularly fond of Fener, Balat, Kadıköy, and Üsküdar for their authentic character and human stories. Whether exploring Ottoman palaces or winding through hidden alleys on foot, his tours reflect a love for discovery, urban walking, contemporary art, and sensory culture — including fragrances, food, and street sounds.

In 2022, I attended a summer school program at the Pontificia Università Urbaniana. During my time in Rome, I took part in museum and walking tours while also working on improving my Italian.
